The Butterfly Nebula is part of the region of dust and gas surrounding Sadr, a star in the constellation Cygnus and about 3000 light years distant. There are two swaths of thick dust separated by a dark lane and giving the nebula its namesake shape. This photo was taken in Salem, Arkansas on July 19th, 2024.
